Lynn Hughes

Notice biographique

Lynn Hughes currently holds a Concordia Research Chair and teaches in the Studio Arts Department at Concordia University in Montreal. She was instrumental in the conception, structuring and funding of Hexagram, the Montreal Institute for Research / Creation in Media Arts and Technologies (www.hexagram.org). In 2001 Lynn co-edited a bilingual book entitled Creative Con-fusions / Penser l'indiscipline which looks at interdisciplinary practice in contemporary art.
She is co-director, with Jean Dubois, of the Interstices Research
Group [www.interstices.ca], which focuses on producing new media works that explore the aesthetic and poetic potential of interaction with the screen and sound. These works are frequently installations or immersive environments that imply multimedia programming and the development or adaptation of innovative, custom, wireless “body" interfaces. She usually works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams that include artists, artist/programmers, programmers, engineers, interface designers, sound and game designers. She is interested in continuing to develop very collaborative, interactive works using wireless interfaces of various sorts. More specifically she is hoping to develop the future projects in three ways: as experimental art pieces, as commercial game-like applications and, for therapeutic contexts. http://www.lynnhughes.net/
