Francine Perinet

Biography

Studied History of Art at Université de Montréal and at Concordia University in Montréal. In 1980, founded Artexte (a research centre in contemporary art), with Angela Grauerholz and Anne Ramsden; worked at PARACHUTE magazine. Directed Optica, in Montréal in 1982. Worked as National Spokesperson and President of the Association of the National Not for Profit Artist-Run Centres (ANNPAC) between 1981 and 1983. Worked at The Canada Council for the Arts as Assistant Head and Programme Officer in the Visual Arts Section from 1983 to 1988. Directed the Department of Visual Arts (1988-1992) and taught at the University of Ottawa for many years. Was a member of the Board of Directors of FUSE magazine; now a member of the Board of Directors of C magazine and a member of the Acquisitions Committee and the Contemporary Consultative Committee at The Art Gallery of Ontario. Worked in many other capacities as a specialist in the contemporary visual arts. Since October 1992 is the Director of Oakville Galleries, a public art gallery dedicated to contemporary art.
